EU Pharmaceutical Package

The EU Pharmaceutical Package, is the popular name for a series of measures proposed by the European Commission impacting the international research-based pharmaceutical industry. This series included the "Communication on the future of the single market in pharmaceuticals for human use", which set out the Commissions's vision for the sector.

The EU Pharmaceutical Package includes three separate legislative proposals; on modernising pharmacovigilance to improve the safety of medicines; on improving patient safety by reducing the infiltration of counterfeit medicines into the supply chain; and on improving patient access to high-quality health and medicines information.

The proposals have to be discussed by both the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers as part of the co-decision procedure before the proposal can be translated into law.
